Arlington National Cemetery Southern Expansion Operations Complex
Arlington, VA
The Arlington National Cemetery’s Southern Expansion program is a campus expansion initiative designed to enhance visitor services, operational support facilities, and transportation connectivity throughout the Columbia Pike corridor. Beginning in 2021, the program includes development of the South Parcel and Service Complex, featuring a new office building, warehouse, green-roof maintenance bays, public parking garage, visitor entrance and screening facilities, columbaria courts, and crypt installations. The expansion also integrates the United States Air Force Memorial with the cemetery campus to improve accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
Faith Group provided mechanical, electrical, and low voltage system design and consulting services supporting the expansion program. The project included infrastructure and building systems design for campus operations, maintenance facilities, security, visitor services, and site-wide utility distribution. Scope included HVAC, plumbing, power distribution, lighting, backup power, telecommunications, access control, video surveillance, and audio-visual systems, as well as specialized ventilation systems supporting maintenance operations.
“As part of the Expansion Project, the Department of the Army and others worked to realign roads and real estate to ensure a much needed expansion of Arlington National Cemetery so that this space can continue being a hallowed resting ground for our nation’s service members.” – G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney Eastern District of Virginia, Justive.gov, June 15, 2020
