AEC IDIQ MATOC for Design-Build Military Health System Construction

Colorado Springs, CO and Edwards AFB, CA

Under an AEC IDIQ MATOC for Design-Build Military Health System Construction, Faith Group supported the prime on two healthcare building projects for Edwards and Peterson AFBs. The Edwards AFB Multiple Medical Facilities Modernization project included relocating, realigning, and/or right-sizing departments located in multiple buildings: Dental and Mental Health, Education and Training, Physical Therapy, SIM, and Ambulance Bays.

The Peterson AFB 21st Medical Group (21 MDG) is a premier outpatient clinic that supports a multi-service market and 30,000 beneficiaries from all military services. The single-story main facility renovations included relocating and right-sizing several departments, constructing a front entrance addition, whole building anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) compliance and repairing infrastructure. The building was designed to LEED Silver certification.

Faith Group assisted as part of both design-build teams, providing conceptual and detailed engineering design services for multiple low voltage systems, along with all communications, IT, and cybersecurity considerations. The low voltage systems included video surveillance (cameras, servers, and storage), access control, intrusion detection, public address, interactive television, patient queuing and clinic workflow, sound masking, and building-wide LAN and WAN. To keep the clinic functioning during the construction phase Faith Group had to maintain 100% operations, and both projects required heavy multi-trade coordination with MEP/FP teams. There were several user requirements, including United Facilities Criteria (UFC) and hospital-specific requirements so modern solutions could still talk to existing systems on campus.

“The renovation improves delivery of care to the patient, better flow for the patient and staff, more appropriate use of space within the facility and overall modernization of patient care areas.” Jake Lesko, U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. 21st MDG Clinical Engineering Section Chief, spaceforce.mil, January 26, 2022
