Long Beach Transit
Transit Gallery and Convention Center Digital Engagement Program, Station Pilot Program
Long Beach, CA
Faith Group was selected to develop a Digital Engagement Program to include industry-leading dynamic signage concepts incorporating Long Beach Transit’s (LBT) branding to enhance transit rider experience and increase ridership engagement. The goal of the program was to introduce new technologies which would improve LBT’s offering and compete with app-based rideshare services and other modes of travel. The firm collected existing conditions and stakeholder goals and objectives, performed benchmarking, and provided alternatives analysis and selection, which resulted in an overall technical Program Definition Document (PDD). The PDD included rough order of magnitude cost estimates associated with final design and installation of the preferred solution.
In coordination with the PDD, Faith Group designed and implemented a pilot program to test various technologies based on rider effectiveness, while improving safety and security at bus stops and LBT’s transit core. This pilot allowed for hands-on evaluation and refinement of planned concepts. Technologies included digital high brightness LED displays, ePaper solution, Wi-Fi, touchscreen interactive kiosk, USB charging, security cameras, and LED lighting. The program ran for one year from planning through testing. The digital strategy encompassed not only increasing bus route information but also overall rider experience within LBT’s transit core in downtown Long Beach. The results were positive and met requirements in all but two of the piloted technologies.
